Perfect (Authentic)
V - I
The strongest of all cadences.
Imperfect (Half Cadence) -
I - V
Ends on the V chord from I, II IV or V.
A very weak and incomplete sounding progression.
Plagal (Amen)
IV - I
Often used as IV – I – II – V – I progression.
Does not usually signify a complete return to the I chord since it does not sound complete.
Interrupted (Deceptive)
V - II
V to any chord other than the I
(typically ii, IV6, iv6, vi or VI).
Also a very weak cadence.
