Chromatic Scales

The Chromatic scale as mentioned in the Music Theory lessons comprise of all the notes possible to play. The Chromatic scale is made up of half steps every fret on the guitar is a half step so the chromatic scale is all notes from the opne string to the 12th fret. This is good time to practice fingering and learn a few notes on the guitar.

If you play the open string and then the first four frets of each string you will have a three octave chromatic scale.

That is Open E String then frets 1,2,3,4 then Open A string then frets 1,2,3,4, Open D string then frets 1,2,3,4 etc...

The following score shows all the notes on the neck of the guitar, the notes then repeat at the tweleth fret.

The pattern for the Chromatic Scale is 1111 1111 1111 or 12 half steps. We will learn other scales from this scale by leaving out some notes and increasing certain steps.

If you cannot see the score, get the Sibelius Scorch plug-in here.
