Here is our first complete scale and fingering pattern. This fingering is know as Fingering Type 1 since you stretch your first finger to play it.
The E Major scale is made from the following steps: Whole - Half - Whole - Whole - Whole - Half - Whole - Whole.
This means to play the E Major scale on the E String you play Open String (E), 2nd fret (F#), 4rd fret (G#), 5th fret (A), 7th fret (B), 9th fret (C#), 11th fret(D#), 12th fret (E). Practice this pattern on the other strings to play the Major Scale on all strings and to get the pattern down. Once you have the pattern down you can move around the neck and by knowing the pattern and a few notes on the neck you can move from position to position by using the notes you know and then the pattern of the major scale.
